Plus Points (+)
Hello world! We grow up watching lots of horror movies like 47 Meters Down (2017), Inspector Rishi (2024), Kaatteri (2022), and Andhaghaaram (2022), but director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam goes one step ahead in making Sabdham, where he shows in the movie the unity of Dharma and vigyan (Religion and Science); this type of unity is lacking in many big-budget horror movies.
The first half is decent in terms of drama, and some horrible things happen in St. Angels Medical College. The last 35 minutes of the first half looks like you are watching Demonte Colony 2 (2024). Directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, While the second half is good in terms of horror and dramatic scenes, note it's my personal point of view (POV) from my childhood to now.
I have watched the majority of horror movies. After watching Sabdham, I don't notice something new or innovative in this film, but I appreciate the director of this movie.Director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam is known for the Tamil Rockerz (2022) web series on SonyLIV. In this web series, he explained that torrent websites are the termite of the South Indian film industry. Back to the topic, the first half of the movie runs smoothly, but the second half lost its momentum, which ties the audience to thetheir seat.
Minus Points (-)
The first half is good for creating funnels that attract the audience, building suspense, and featuring some intense scenes that hold the momentum until the end of the first half. However, the second half is a mix of clichéd scenes reminiscent of '90s horror movies. On the other hand, the background music (BGM) is the biggest strength of the movie.
