Plus Points (+)
After receiving a positive response from the audience towards part 1, director Vetri Maaran once again comes with Vidudala Part 2, where action, drama, and thriller lead the whole movie till the end.
If Vidudala Part 1 is the story of Constable Kumaresan, Part 2 totally revolves around Vijay Sethupathi as Perumal, leader of Makkal Padai.
The first half runs in flashback, where, before he becomes the leader of Makkal Padai, he is a schoolteacher, where he marries Mahalakshmi. A traumatic incident involving Karuppan shakes him completely. He meets KK, and that leads into a violent path and becomes Makkal Padai. While the second half lost the momentum and tested the audience's patience level.
You admit it or not, Vidudala Part 2 and Part 1 are successful due to Vijay Sethupathi, because he is included among those actors who are popular in South India as well as North India. If you are a fan of Vijay Sethupathi, you know that he is not popular for comedy and action scenes; he is popular for dialogue delivery.
Minus Points (-)
If you don't like Vidudala Part 2 and you want similar types of movies in Hindi cinema, I recommend Paan Singh Tomar, and if you want an alternative to Vidudala Part 2 in Tamil and Telugu, I personally recommend Pushpa: The Rise, because these movies are inspired by true incidents.
Back to the topic, the first half is organized by audience perspective. You have to watch everything you can expect to see Vijay Sethupathi in, like action, comedy, and thriller, where Ilaiyaraaja's background music adds 5 stars to the movie. But if the makers work at a pace instead of stretching the movie in the second half, it is better for the movie, because the first half is decent according to the audience, but the second half is looking like the makers are artificially increasing the length of the movie.
Technical Aspects
Vetrimaaran’s attempt to address complex societal issues is evident, but a more concise and focused narrative could have been more effective. The music and cinematography are decent and complement the film’s tone.
However, the editing leaves room for improvement, as several scenes in the second half could have been trimmed to enhance the pacing and overall engagement.
Conclusion
Vidudala Part 2 totally revolves around Vijay Sethupathi as Perumal, leader of Makkal Padai, where the first half is a mixture of action and drama while the second half is a combination of action and suspense.
