Synopsis
Raghu Thatha movie started in 1960's Valluvenpettai village, Tamil Nadu. Kayalvizhi Pandian, who works at Madras Central Bank, is a fervent feminist and anti-Hindi imposition activist. She and her grandfather Raghothaman had successfully shut down the Bharathiya Bhasha Ekta Sabha, a Hindi organization in her village , but a twist comes in the movie when Raghothaman is diagnosed with stomach cancer. In his last time he expresses three final wishes, what are his three wishes? and Kayalvizhi Pandian agree to fulfill his grandfather's last wish?

After the back-to-back success of Guns & Gulaabs, Raghuthatha, Test, Farzi, and The Family Man, Suman Kumar now put his foots in the Tamil film industry through Raghu Thatha, where he cast Keerthy Suresh, M. S. Bhaskar, and Devadarshini in lead roles.
First half, Keerthy Suresh shines with her comedy dialogues and a dramatic girl who is totally against marriage and Hindi language; she always appears in front of every protest against Hindi language in her village. But the second half likes a dead body without a soul. Because the second hour is a mixture of drama, emotional scenes, and a little bit of suspense, but after the interval, the audience easily predicts the story. Overall, the first half is more interesting than the second half in terms of comedy and suspense.
As we know, without music, a movie is incomplete. Sean Roldan's music is decent, but the audience recognizes him for his background music, while on the other side, Yamini Yagnamurthy's cinematography gets full marks. But our real-life hero is T. S. Suresh, whose editing skills are next level, especially in the first half.
People who disrespect side characters's in movies, Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar, aka M S Bhaskar, is a perfect example of putting slaps on their faces. After appearing in many movies like Boat (2024), Saamaniyan (2024), Oru Nodi (2024), and more, he now appears in this movie as a grandfather role. The first half of his and Keerthy Suresh's performance gives a humorous vibe, but the second half of some scenes makes you emotional.
After a short performance in Raayan (2024) by Devadarshini, who plays the doctor role, now she appears in Raghu Thatha, where she plays Alamelu's role. A friend of Kayalvizhi Pandian, her appearance adds a taste of comedy in some scenes, like when she and Kayalvizhi are trying to learn Hindi from Suneel, a bank peon.

The first half and second half are both connected to each other; if you miss the first one, you cannot understand the second one, while on the other side, if makers remove some unwanted conversation between Tamilselvan and Kayalvizhi, which is very good from the audience perspective.
Devadarshini, who is a very talented actress, has a very short role in this film, while on the other side, MS Bhaskar, who appears many times in the first half, has little appearance in the second one.
Conclusion
Raghu Thatha is a comedy-drama movie where the first half is watchable; please don't expect any type of romantic or action scenes, while on the other side emotional scenes and a little bit of suspense lead the second half. Overall, Raghu Thatha is a female dominance film where male actors appear in supporting roles unless MS Bhaskar.
