Plus Points (+)

First, it looks like 96 is the favorite number of Director C. Prem Kumar. Because his directed 2018 film "96" gained positive response from the audience,  he stated the Meiyazhagan movie story from the year 1996.

The first half is slow pace and dramatic, where Arvind Swami's acting melts your heart, and if you're emotionally weak, there's a strong possibility you are starting to cry because Director C. Prem Kumar knows that's how to win the audience's heart without a big budget. While in the second half, sometimes you feel like the movie lost its core plot and revolved around unwanted scenes, which were trimmed by the makers and didn't effect the film.

Meiyazhagan story is very similar to Nanban Oruvan Vandha Piragu, directed by Ananth Ram. Because in Nanban Oruvan Vandha Piragu, Kanamma helps Anand get out of the past. This is similar to the case with Meiyazhagan, where Meiyazhagan helps Arul Mozhi recover from a past incident.

When you watch this movie first, you see many characters in the film, but when you reach the end, you realize that the whole film revolves around two characters, Arul Mozhi and Meiyazhagan; other characters are available only for filling the screen.

After his cameo appearance in Singapore Saloon, Arvind Swamy now appears in this film as a lead character, where he plays the role of Arul Mozhi, an innocent person who is still tied to painful memories of his past. In the first half, his performance is praised by the audience due to the emotional story line and awesome acting , but in the second half, due to a lack of innovation in the story line, his character becomes a little bit tedious, which grabs audience attention in the first half.

Meiyazhagan as Karthi shines in the mostly second half when trying to help Arul Mozhi try to win his trust. Karthi is very expert in solid dialogue delivery. After watching this film, we can say that Arul Mozhi is the hero, but the real hero in this film is Meiyazhagan, who always runs in the background.

Minus Points (-)

Director C. Prem Kumar, who created the magic of drama and emotional scenes in the film 96, seems to be on the verge of failing this time.
The first half is attractive and fully organized with suspense, drama, and emotional scenes, while the second half is not as interested as the first one, but still characters performances are watchable.

Technical Aspects

Just like S. S. Rajamouli, popular for action and historic movies, and Director C. Prem Kumar, popular for romantic, emotional, and dramatic movies, he doesn't need 1000 crores to win the audience's heart. In his direction The first half runs smoothly, but the second half needs attention.

Govind Vasantha's music is good, but his background score is amazing, while Mahendiran Jayaraju's cinematography gets 75 marks, while on the other side, R. Govindraj's editing skills are praiseable, but he's missing a little bit of small details, particularly in the second half.
