Plus Points (+)

Mari Selvaraj includes those directors who make the best movies on a minimum budget without any type of marketing . Back to the topic, Vaazhai is a type of movie where action, romance, suspense, and other characteristics now exist only in pure drama and a little bit of comedy.

The first half totally revolves around Sivanaindhan and his mother "Janaki," eldest sister "Vembu," and best friend "Sekar." Both Sekar and Sivanaindhan are ardent fans of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, talking about which movie is now released in the cinema hall. The first hour is very interesting for those who like inspiring movies like Gunaa (1991), Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka (2015), and Haridass (2013).

While the second half is a mixture of drama and emotional scenes, which make you emotional, when he reaches the transporting sight, he finds that's the entire village in mourning, with around '19' corpses, including Vembu, Kani, Sekar, and more laborers, who died in a lorry accident while transporting bananas.

Casting is the biggest asset to this movie. Through this film, the director tells the story of an ever-lower-class person, including a school-going boy, a family man, and a young girl who is forced into marriage soon; it doesn't matter if she likes him or not. This is the same story of our young hero, "Sivanaindhan," who is very intelligent in academics but, due to family responsibilities, crushed his dreams in his mind and was forced into a field where he harvests raw banana bunches and transports them to lorries with her sister.

To make the movie more interesting for audiences, makers shift the camera angle towards Vembu and Kani, who both love each other but don't tell about their relationship to anyone, while on the other side, Sivanaindhan has a crush on his social science teacher, Poonkodi. If I conclude the whole movie in one line, Sekar and Sivanaindhan are carrying the whole movie on their shoulders.

Minus Points (-)

Vaazhai is not just another Tamil film; it makes you laugh, cry, and, most importantly, think. The oppression and disparity that exist even today in society need a voice, and who better than a brilliant Mari Selvaraj for this

A lovely representation of life that has all mixed emotions, realistic treatment, and an engrossing screenplay. Barring some minor flaws, we get to travel along with the characters and feel their joyous and sorrowful situations.
