Plus Points (+)

After Rasavathi, Minmini, including in those movies, which makes you emotional and gives a lesson like being yourself, After giving her best in Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa, director and writer Halitha Shameem comes with another drama movie where she casts Esther Anil as the lead actress.

If you like movies like Anbe Sivam, Kaaka Muttai, and Kattradu Tamizhan, I recommend you watch Minmini. Because this movie is a combination of jealousy, bullying, and friendship, I think Minmini gets the most inspiring movie award of 2024.

The first half is slow pace and a combination of drama, friendship, and guilt. Where the movie opens in boarding school, where we see some wacky antics of Pari, like bullying new students in his class and getting poor grades in exams, etc. But the second half is not as interesting as the first half, but it's gives a social message like, Be yourself, don't complete another's dreams, forget the past, and move on.

Praveen Kishore, who is the lead actor, plays the role of Sabari, a depressed guy who completes his friend's dream (biking in the Himalayas). In the first half, his performance is decent, like that of an introverted student who gets excellent marks in exams and is the best chess player in his school. But in the second half, some of his dialogue looks artificial and carries low levels of energy.

Esther Anil, who appears in supporting roles in many popular movies like Drishyam, Papanasam, and Drishyam 2 , now appears in the Minmini movie as Praveenah, a classmate of Sabari and Pari. The first half of the movie appears in a few scenes, but the second half totally revolves around her and Sabari, where she wins the audience heart through her inspiring dialogues and how she helps Sabari get out of depression.

Gaurav Kaalai as Pari, did a wonderful performance as a student who was weak in academics but won a gold medal for his school in sports. In the first half, he shines with his comedy dialogues and jealousy toward Sabari.

Minus Points (-)

Due to the overuse of English at many times in the second half, audiences who don't understand English get's negative impact. If I conclude the whole movie in one line, the first half is more interesting than the second half.

VFX is weak in many Himalayan scenes, and some dialogues are poorly written and take patience.

Overall, the movie story is interesting, and the cast selection is good. But due to poorly written dialogue and a bad screenplay in the second half, Minmini falls into the irritating category.

Technical Aspects

Director Halitha Shameem did a good job as a director; she filmed the movie over eight years so she could capture the growth of the actors needed for the film. If she improves dialogue in the second half, which is good for the movie,.

AR Rahman's daughter Khatija makes her debut in this movie, where her background music gives a mixed feeling of romance and friendship.

The cinematography skills of Manoj Paramahamsa are topnotch, where he captured the landscape of the Himalayan mountain range and highlighted the healing power of nature, while on the on the other side, editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta is decent.
