Synopsis
Raayan is the story of Kathavaraayan and his two brothers, Manickam and Muthu, and one sister, Durga lives peaceful life in a small town in Tamil Nadu. But the situation gets worse when Sethu's men seek his blood. Who is Sethu? And why do his mens want to kill Raayan and his family ?

After breaking all box office collection records in January through Captain Miller, Tamil Super Star Dhanush once again comes with action, revange drama movie where his performance steals the show with his minimal words.
If you're a true fan of actor Dhanush, you seen his films like Maari 2 , Asuran , Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty and more. But in this Raayan movie, he appears on screen in a completely different role or if I say that it is a family survival action, revenge, drama movie, I think I am not wrong.
The first half is a slow pace and combination of family drama, action, and suspense. where film started with the childhood struggle of our hero and his siblings, where their parents live home and never come back till now, and more emotional scenes. But after 35 minutes, the movie comes back on track, and we see that Dhanush as Raayan, who runs a small fast food stall to support his siblings.
The second half is not as interesting as the first one , Because movie doesn’t offer much that’s new for audiences, and something feels like maker's artificially dragging the film in the second part.
Dhanush who is popular for his dialogue and dancing style, now plays lead cast in this movie where he plays the role of Raayan who runs a fast food stall , First half he shines with his silent personality but his action style is watchable. On the other side we see a lot of action scenes where he fights with goons who want to harm his family .
After Dhanush, Dushara Vijayan becomes the center of attention as a Durga, First half her performance is decent, but in the second half, her dialogue and action scenes give mixed feelings.

First is decent and watchable, but if makers focus more on the second half instead of coverage action and emotional scenes in first one which is better for movie, Because second half have lots of action and thriller but due to lack of emotional drama audience get negative impact .
No doubt Dhanush is a wonderful actor who has done different genres of film in past and got a chance to play role of Avik San in Gray Man ( Hollywood Film) but as an director Dhanush magic does not work as we hope when movie trailer is released.
Begining of movie we think that Raayan is a family drama movie, Because first 20 minutes Film cover struggle childhood of Dhanush and his siblings, But after interval movie entry into war zone where AR Rahman’s Background music play an important to adding taste of thriller and suspense. Overall if you think that Raayan is a film drama movie you are on the wrong place.
Technical Aspects
As an actor Dhanush is my favourite , But as an Director he lost his position in my heart, Because First 36 minutes movie runs in a intresting manner and balance way like action, emotinal depth and suspance, Because that's time audience don't know who is villain and what's he wants? , But in second audience easily predict what's happen next .
This time , AR Rahman music works, Because in Ayalaan movie directed by R. Ravikumar , AR Rahman music not worked as intended, but in Dhanush movie his background music grabs audience attention.
When we hear about today this movie release in theater first thing comes in our mind is hero in this movie, but second thing comes in our mind is who is cinematography in this movie, Back to topic, cinematography of Om Prakash is excellent where he captured small to small details, while other side editing by Prasanna GK could have been better.
Conclusion
Raayan is a revenge, action, and drama movie where First half is combination of Action, Drama and Suspance while other side second half only for who Action loves action.
