Prasanna Vadanam 2024 Telugu Movie : Critique
Plus Points (+)
Suhas is a young and energetic actor in the Telugu film industry. After the success of "Manu Charitra" and "Mishan Impossible," Suhas Pagolu returns with another action thriller, starring alongside Payal Radhakrishna in the lead role.
The first 20 minutes lack excitement, focusing on drama, romance, and comedy. However, Rashi Singh's bold and targeted dialogues add a taste of thriller.
Director Arjun Y K is known for both big-budget and low-budget movies. He did excellent work in "Nenokkadine" with Mahesh Babu and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. Casting Suhas as the lead in "Prasanna Vadanam" was his best decision. Casting a popular hero like Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, or Dhanush would have been more expensive, so Suhas Pagolu is perfect in terms of budget and popularity.
If you judge movies by their music, you’re in the right place. Vijai Bulganin, a popular music director for Telugu and Tamil movies, delivers decent music here compared to his other projects.
When discussing the best comedians in the South Indian film industry, names like Yogi Babu, Motta Rajendran, and Viva Harsha come to mind. In "Prasanna Vadanam," Viva Harsha plays Vignesh. Comedy fuels every movie, and Viva Harsha's performance in the first half is impressive and humorous, though the second half shifts to seriousness, thriller, and suspense, which might disappoint audiences expecting more of his comedy.
Back to the cast's performance, Suhas Pagolu, playing Surya, delivers an outstanding performance as a character afflicted with Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, which prevents him from recognizing the faces and voices of those around him. His performance in the first half is decent, with drama, thriller, and some romantic scenes with Payal Radhakrishna grabbing the audience's attention. However, when he gets entangled in a murder case, the scenes where he fights for himself literally give you goosebumps. The second half evokes mixed feelings with emotional scenes and strong vibes of friendship.
Suhas's expressions, emotions, dialogue delivery, and mannerisms are exceptionally executed, bringing depth and authenticity to his role. Both critics and the audience appreciate his performance, saying he is perfectly fit for the role.
Payal Radhakrishna, playing Aadhya, an innocent and kind-hearted girl who falls in love with Surya, delivers a wonderful performance. Viewers recognize her for her simplicity and romantic scenes, while her comedic dialogues make the movie more interesting for audiences. She has excelled in popular movies like "Ala Ninnu Cheri," "Nimmellara Aashirvada," "Bhinna," and more but steals the show in the second half by supporting Surya in tough times.
Rashi Singh, as ACP Vaidehi, excels in a negative role. Her bold decision to portray a negative character pays off, showcasing her versatility beyond conventional heroine roles.
Minus points (-)
The second half is more interesting compared to the first half, which at times feels like watching a random drama with no emotions or feelings. Director Arjun Y K’s strategy to engage the audience through romantic scenes between the lead actors is commendable, but he fails in this mission because today’s audience, especially parents with children, are not easily attracted by such scenes.
I appreciate Vijai Bulganin for providing wonderful background music when Payal Radhakrishna's character approaches Surya.
Technical aspects.
As discussed above, Arjun Y K mainly focuses on low-budget or medium-budget movies, but the stories are solid and unpredictable. While the cast's performance is okay, the director should have focused more on the first half to improve the film. The first half feels like watching a random, emotionless movie with only drama and a bit of comedy.
Vijai Bulganin is a wonderful music director, but this time his songs fail to leave a lasting impression. However, the romantic background music touches your heart.
The cinematography by S. Chandrasekaran captures memorable moments like romantic scenes between the lead actors, fight scenes, and emotional scenes in the second half. Editing by Karthika Srinivas R. is well-executed.
Conclusion
"Prasanna Vadanam" is a drama, comedy, and thriller movie, where the director adds a romantic touch between the lead cast to make the movie more interesting for the audience. The first half is a bit disappointing, but the second half is more interesting, filled with suspense and thrills.
