Plus Points (+)

After the success of DJ Tillu, released in 2022, Siddhu Jonnalagadda returns with the next installment, Tillu Square, where he is now an event planner instead of a DJ. Tillu Square is a blend of comedy and drama, with Anupama Parameswaran playing a crucial role in creating suspense. First, I appreciate the hard work of director Malik Ram and his team in recreating the magic that DJ Tillu brought.

Back to the topic, the first half is a combination of comedy and romance, featuring romantic scenes between Tillu and Lilly, including back-to-back intense scenes and lip locks, adding a taste of romance. The director aims to attract a young audience, but when Radhika enters the movie, it shifts to a more balanced tone with drama and a bit of comedy.

There was significant pressure on the new director, Malik Ram, because Vimal Krishna set a high benchmark with DJ Tillu. It was Malik Ram’s turn to meet the audience’s expectations set by DJ Tillu, and he succeeded. The public appreciated Malik Ram's work, where Siddhu Jonnalagadda's comedy and Anupama Parameswaran's bold character played a key role in capturing the audience's attention.

Another factor contributing to the movie's success is the re-entry of Radhika (Neha Shetty). Many directors make the mistake of casting a new lead actor in the sequel instead of the original cast. An example is the movie Welcome Back (2015). The original, Welcome, broke box office records in 2007, but when director Anees Bazmee cast John Abraham instead of Akshay Kumar, the audience couldn’t connect, and the movie failed at the box office.

Here, Malik Ram made a good decision by casting Neha Shetty, who is not the lead actress but maintains the same vibes as DJ Tillu.

Siddhu Jonnalagadda plays the lead role of Tillu. He became popular through DJ Tillu, where his comedy and funny dialogues earned him the title of comedy master. The audience appreciated his performance and acting. He returns in the same role, but the story is different, though his comedic style and dialogue delivery remain the same.

As a writer, he understands what the audience wants. It’s no exaggeration to say Siddhu single-handedly carried the film from the first shot to the last.

Anupama Parameswaran plays the lead role of Lilly. In the first half, her romantic scenes attract young viewers, while her innocent yet bold dialogues add suspense and thrill to the second half.

Neha Shetty’s re-entry steals the show with her brief but stunning appearance as Radhika. She looks beautiful, and her performance and dialogues are appreciated by the public. Murli Sharma, Muralidhar Goud, Prince, and others have limited screen time but still play important roles.

Minus Points (-)

The Tillu-Lilly pairing doesn’t recreate the magic of Tillu-Radhika. While Lilly's performance is wonderful in the first half, it fades in the second half with Radhika's entry.

The sequel begins exactly where the first part ends. However, the first half progresses slowly, despite being filled with comedy and romance. Some scenes don’t work as intended, slightly lowering audience expectations for the lead cast.

Murli Sharma, Muralidhar Goud, and Prince are very talented actors, but their screen appearances are limited, with some cast members appearing only once.

Technical Aspects

Malik Ram is a new director, but under his direction, the movie performed well at the box office. However, Anupama Parameswaran as Lilly didn’t recreate the magic of Tillu-Radhika. On the other hand, Ram Miryala and Achu Rajamani did a good job with the songs.

The background music by Bheems Ceciroleo is amazing, with different types of BGM in the first and second halves, changing the audience's mood according to the situation.

Editing by Navin Nooli is decent, and cinematography by Sai Prakash focuses more on Siddhu Jonnalagadda in the first half and Neha Shetty in the second half, indirectly highlighting the lead cast.

Conclusion

Overall, the movie's story is unique, with a climax involving Neha Shetty. The first half is a combination of comedy, romance, and drama, while the second half is filled with drama, action, and comedy.
